Source-available isn't good enough.
The agent runtime is becoming critical infrastructure. The people deploying it deserve the same rights they have with their database, their compiler, and their operating system: the right to read, modify, fork, and run it without asking anyone's permission.
We ship Mercury, the Skills registry, and our evaluation tooling under MIT — not BSL, not Elastic, not "source available." If we ever feel pressure to retreat from that, it means our business model has stopped working and the right response is to fix the business model, not the license.
Our commercial product — Cosmic Stack Cloud — is the managed runtime, not a feature-gated fork. If you want to run the OSS yourself, you always can. The Cloud version exists because operating an agent fleet is non-trivial work, and many teams would rather pay for that than do it themselves.
